curt cobain's suicide note
|
For those who have made such a vociferous start to
career, those on the stage of limelight, their history
tends to include incidents of depression, violence,
paranoia and deliberate self-harm at a level abnormally
high. On the other hand, all the "wilderness years"
lays bricks for the wall with the compulsive energy
they brought to every activity. They are a legend of
their own, an international liberation icon, a rebellious
standard-bearer, the centre of a sometimes frantic world-wide
cult, AND, a pilgrim that would most easily accept the
way to end their life in a sudden-fading-away manner.
Why? Is it because they are automaniacs, driven to
self-obsession by the constant pain of distinguishing
themselves from others, so that they managed to illustrate
pain and to make those illustrations bold?

Jeff Buckley:A Wished-For Song
|
There might not be many David Bowies, while there are
many David Bowies who sold the rights to future royalties
from his extensive collection of songs. All future sales
of his work will be paid to the bondholders who in effect
now own the rights to his music. There might not be
many Kurt Cobains, while there are many Kurts who raised
the question how a star dies and provided the answer
what sort of explosion and remnant it could produce.
However, in whichever case, they're pursuing their distinct
individual, or to put it another way, mutual, as they're
referred to as the same group of human beings, objectives.
They sing purely and strongly with an edge of harshness.
Their minds have never been unbalanced. Their death
need never be presumed. We will never know what it meant
when a suicide note was being written with "Please
keep going Courtney, for Frances. For her life, which
will be so much happier without me." We will never
seek to prove that Jeff was simply drowned instead of
going into the water and then vanishing. Some call it
ruritania; some call it absurdia. But, is it always
much sweeter to hear the gossip that Elvis finally resurfaced
in Ontario in July…The story after their disappearance
is just another posture they do besides music, silent.
Having lived with passion, silence, fame and pains,
maybe death is the only true, quiet moments of their
tumultuous life through which they could have their
soul of ultra aestheticism honed.
